Airtel may roll out 4G services in Kolkata on March 20

If circulating media reports are to be believed, Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom player is all set to introduce nation with advance 4G services by 20th of March. However, the telecom giant will initially roll out 4G services in Kolkata only; the benefits of 4G services will be expanded pan India in later phases.
Airtel recently had handed over the establishment of 4G network infrastructure work to Nokia Siemens Network in Maharashtra Circle, for which the latest TD-LTE technology will be utilized. Technology major ZTE may supply the equipment and manage operations in Kolkata in these terms.
Bharti Airtel had paid Rs 3,314.36 crore for getting fourth generation spectrum in four circles – Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab and Kolkata – in a government auction held in 2010. According to the sources, Airtel has appointed Huawei in Karnataka region and Ericsson in Punjab for 4G.
With the expected 4G foray, Airtel will become the first company to introduce these advance telecom services in the country. However, Augere Wireless has been offering high-speed data through dongles (data cards) since last month.
