Aircel occupies top position in adding maximum subscribers by end of August, rural subscriber base increases

At the end of August Aircel has occupied the top position in terms of adding new subscribers. The company added 8.76 lakh new users taking its base to 6.26 crore. Followed by Bharti Airtel, it added 8.33 lakh new users during the period. The current subscriber base of Airtel is 19.22 crore.
Next comes Idea Cellular which added 7.52 lakh subscribers taking its user base to 12.60 crore while RCom added 5.10 lakh subscribers. Its subscriber base now stands at 12.67 crore. Videocon and Loop added 1.58 lakh and 65,057 new users respectively during August.
Vodafone and Uninor however lost 85,811 and 5.05 lakh subscribers at the end of August taking their subscriber base to 15.43 crore and 3.22 crore respevtively.
State-run BSNL and MTNL too ended up on losers’ side with their user base going down by lost 1.31 lakh and 2.92 lakh respectively. Tata Teleservices and Sistema Shyam Teleservices lost 3.73 lakh and 15,515 users respectively during the month.
India’s total mobile subscriber base has shown marginal increase of 0.21 percent in August, according to the latest data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). It grew from 874.88 million in July 2013 to 876.72 million at the end of August 2013. The share of urban wireless subscribers has declined from 60.10 percent to 59.98 percent whereas share of rural wireless subscribers has increased from 39.90 percent to 40.02 percent. The overall wireless teledensity in India has reached 71.21 from 71.13 of previous month.
The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 904.46 million at the end of July, 2013 to 906.18 million at the end of August 2013, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.19 percent. The share of urban subscribers has declined from 60.69 percent to 60.57 percent whereas share of rural subscribers has increased from 39.31 percent to 39.43 percent in the month of August 2013. With this, the overall Teledensity in India increased from 73.54 at the end of July, 2013 to 73.60 at the end of August, 2013.
Total Broadband subscriber base has increased from 15.24 million at the end of July 2013 to 15.28 million at the end of August 2013, there by showing a monthly growth of 0.26 percent. Yearly growth in broadband subscribers is 3.10 percent during the last one year (August 2012 to August 2013). Top five ISPs in terms of market share (based on subscriber base) are: BSNL (9.98 million), Bharti Airtel (1.43 million), MTNL (1.08 million), Hathway (0.37 million) and You Broadband (0.33 million).
As per the data reported by the service providers, by the end of August 2013 about 100.20 million subscribers have submitted their requests to different service providers for porting their mobile number. In the month of August 2013, total number of subscribers who have submitted their request for MNP is 2.37 million.
