According to reports, Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has given all the telecom service providers December 31 deadline to comply with direction for evolving a mechanism and put it in place for legal interception of Blackberry services.

They have been asked to do so with a solution being provided by the Canadian smartphone maker to the security agencies.

After detailed deliberations DoT found that the telecom service providers are not implementing the interception solution. DoT has said this in a note.

DoT in the note said that keeping this view, it may ask the telecom service providers to comply with the Blackberry Interception requirement by December 31, 2012.

DoT had asked RIM to provide resolution and web-browsing requirements in respect of Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) in consultation with the TSPs and their lawful interception vendors.

The note said that RIM has agreed to place a server in Mumbai in this connection.
