Facebook acquires Karma

By insightVAS - Wed May 23, 1:07 pm

After the successful acquisitions of mobile companies such as Instagram, Lightbox, Tagtile and Glancee, social networking site, Facebook has now completed its fifth acquisition by taking over Karma, a mobile gift-card application. The service that Karma provides will continue to operate in full force.

“By combining the incredible passion of our community with Facebook’s platform we can delight users in new and meaningful ways. As we say … only good things will follow.” Karma Co-Founders Lee Linden and Ben Lewis wrote in a post on the Karma blog.

Karma connects with Facebook  to collect the information of your Facebook friends and notifies consumers of gift-worthy events, such as birthdays. Users can then choose a gift, such as clothes or food, and inform the recipient of it via text, Facebook or e-mail.  Recipients can then select the gift’s flavor, color or size, and either have it shipped to them for free, exchange it or donate the value to a charity of their choice.

Mobile apps are available and the iOS Karma app is free and compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS 4.0 or later. The Android Karma app is available from Google Play. Again, this is a free app and this one is compatible with devices running Android 2.2 or later.
