Spectrum auction ends at Rs 58,980 crore after 56 rounds

After the end of eighth day of 2G spectrum auction, a total of 56 rounds of bidding were completed and the government has received bids around Rs 58,980. 29 crore till now. Eight mobile phone service providers are participating in the auction, that began February 3, for 46 MHz in 900 MHz band and 385 MHz in 1,800 MHz band. The eight mobile phone service providers participating in the auction are Reliance Communications, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Telewings, Aircel, Tata Teleservices and Idea Cellular.

As per Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) data, 1,800 MHz band received bids in all 22 circles and the 900 MHz band received bids in all three circles, which are up for auction. The government saw Rs 23,589.62 crore bids in the 900 MHz auction and Rs 35,390.67 crore in 1,800 MHz.

The highest demand in 900 MHz was seen from the Kolkata circle and in 1,800 MHz highest demand was seen in the Delhi and Assam circles.

The total spectrum on offer is 46 MHz in 900 MHz band (only Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata) and 385 MHz in 1,800 MHz band (all 22 circles) simultaneously. The government targeted to mop up Rs 40,874.50 crore from spectrum auction in 2013-14.
