The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a second amendment in the provisions of “The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010″ issued by the authority on 1 Dec 2010. In this second new amendment of direction issued on 26 June 2012, TRAI has now exempted JaxtrSMS, Latlong & Hike from 200 SMS/Day Limit for non-commercial communications services category that already includes social networking and messaging services such as Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, LinkedIn, GooglePlus, SMS GupShup, Talk.to, Ibibo, Nokia Life Tools, txtweb, Fropper, for sending SMS to its members related to their account activity based on their verifiable option.
Before this second new amendment, TRAI, on 25 Jan 2012, excluded all machine to machine and person to machine messages from the limit of 200 SMS per day per SIM to regulate unsolicited commercial communications.
JaxtrSMS that allows users to send national and international text messages for free, Latlong which is a location based service and Hike which appears to be a mobile messaging service, all were facing some challenges following the TRAI regulations.
