NEW DELHI: India’s IT & Telecom minister Ashwani Vaishnaw Wednesday said that the government wants to attract more players to the Indian telecom sector especially after 5G spectrum auction with the help of structural reforms and the relief package.
He said that “healthy competition” is must for the telecom sector as it will offer more options to Indian consumers. “…competition is extremely important for telecom industry to offer choice to customers. This right has to be protected. The reforms are to ensure healthy competition and attract new players.”

Reforms are revenue neutral to government,” he said.
The relief package, he said, will ensure optimum cash flow in the industry, will be used for 5G deployment in India.
The minister added that prime minister has given mandate that 4G and 5G core and RAN need to be designed and manufactured in India. “Telecom is a capital intensive industry….BSNL and other networks will see only India-made technology deployment. Locally made equipment will be exported.”
The Indian government will soon announced approved telecom manufacturers under the production-linked scheme for telecom equipment and networking products. Multinational vendors like Nokia and Cisco along with domestic players like HFCL and Tejas and contract manufactures like Foxconn are expected to be approved by the Department of Telecommunications in coming days.
Peeyush Vaish, Partner & Telecom Sector Leader, Deloitte India said that the savings in the cash flows will boost the telecom sector and pave the way for 5G auctions in India.
